Pumpkin carving
the kids are starving out in the street
give em candy that would be dandy
though it might be too sweet
give em liquor it kills em quicker
and their maker they might meet
would that be a trick
or would that be a treat?
the police station has
been abandoned for the new year
and all the people go on like before
just living in fear
church was empty there was nobody there
my heart was heavy, the walls were stripped bare
the cross hung crooked on a length of wire
I wanted to set it on fire
When appeared John the Baptist
with the head of a ram
who turned into a vagrant
with a gasoline can
I ran screaming make straight the road
the rams head caught fire
and it did explode
these signs were unsettling
I kept out of sight
I didn't look back
I ran into the night
These strange forebodings
don't sit with me well
it was on a night just like this
when an angel first fell
straight down from heaven
and into hell...
